1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets out the standard of behaviour expected of every OAC member, applicant, and guest, whether at the Clubhouse, on a Meob trip, or representing the Club at any organised event. It exists to protect the fellowship, safety, and reputation of the Club, and to uphold the conservation ethic that underpins everything the Club does.
This Code works alongside the Club Constitution. Any conduct in breach of this Code may be investigated and actioned by the Committee under Rule 12 of the Constitution.
2. Expected Conduct
All members, applicants, and guests are expected to demonstrate:
- Sportsmanship – fair, honest, and gracious conduct in all fishing and Club activities.
- Respect for Club Rules – compliance with the Constitution, this Code, and any Bye-laws or instructions issued by the Committee or a Trip Leader.
- Conservation ethic – responsible, sustainable angling practices, and respect for catch limits, tagging protocols, and local regulations.
- Responsible angling – safe handling of fish and equipment, and consideration for other anglers sharing the water.
- Respect toward fellow members and guests – courteous, inclusive behaviour free from harassment, discrimination, or intimidation.
- Respect for the Meob environment – leaving the environment as it was found; no littering, damage to vegetation, or disturbance of wildlife beyond what angling activity requires.
- Compatibility with OAC values and culture – conduct that reflects positively on the Club and its traditions.
3. On Meob Trips
Meob trips are a privilege extended by invitation and are central to how prospective members are evaluated for future membership. During a trip, all participants are expected to:
- Follow the reasonable instructions of the Trip Leader at all times, particularly regarding safety.
- Respect vehicle, camp, and equipment protocols as briefed before departure.
- Report any incident, injury, or environmental concern to the Trip Leader as soon as practicable.
- Refrain from any conduct that could endanger themselves, other participants, or the environment.
4. Prospective Members
A prospective member’s conduct during their invited Meob trip forms part of the Trip Leader’s feedback to the Committee during the membership application process. Conduct inconsistent with this Code may result in an application not being approved.
5. Club Premises
In line with the Constitution (Rule 3.8), Club premises are non-political in nature. No premises will be made available for political voting, gatherings, or meetings. All conduct on Club premises should reflect the same standards of respect and fellowship expected on Club trips.
6. Breach of this Code
Any report of a breach of this Code will be investigated by the Committee, or a sub-committee formed for that purpose, in line with Rule 12 of the Constitution. The Committee may take such action as it considers appropriate, which may include a warning, restriction of privileges, or termination of membership.
7. Acknowledgement
By submitting a membership application, or by participating in any Club trip or activity, an individual acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.
